Waste Collection Event Held

Waste Collection Event Held

Additional Events Planned for 2026

The Upper Big Blue Natural Resources District and the Four Corners Health Department teamed up to offer a hazardous household and agricultural waste collection event on Saturday, April 12. The event began in Seward County and was part of the annual Seward Clean Up Day.  The collection was intended to continue later in the day at a second location in Butler County, however, the overwhelming amount collected in just a few hours in Seward County completely met the capacity for the day.

This collection event was made possible with grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy. When the Butler County portion of the event had to be cancelled due to the large amount collected in Seward, event coordinators at the NRD and health department hoped that the existing grant funding would be sufficient to be able to offer another event in the near term for those that had been unable to participate in the morning’s collection. However, after tallying receipts and comparing the total to available grant funds, it was evident that the funding would not allow for another collection event this year.

The two organizations intend to apply for grant funding again to offer hazardous household and agricultural waste events in 2026. Possible locations include Polk, York, and Butler Counties. More about event specifics will be announced once grant funding is secured.
